Cahir Castle is one of Ireland's largest and best preserved castles situated on a rocky island on the river Suir. The castle's attractions include an excellent audio-visual show called "Partly Hidden and Partly Revealed" (English/French/German/Italian). The show informs visitors of all the main sites of the area. There are also several exhibitions.

The castle was acquired by the Office of Public Works as a National Monument in 1964 and a major scheme of conservation work was undert...

The statue ot Sir Galbraith Lowry Cole (1772-1842), one of Wellington's generals in the Peninsular War, stands on top of a Doric column. The spiral staircase to the top is closed off so it is not possible to share his panoramic view of the lakes - nor for that matter to examine too closely Sir Galbraith who is holding a fearsome looking cavalry sabre in his left hand....

As you approach this village look out, on the left, for an inscribed rock which commemorates a 'monster' meeting held here in July 1823 by Daniel O'Connell, known as the Liberator for his crusade for Catholic Emancipation in Ireland....

This life sized statue personifies Erin. It commemorates the death of three Irish Nationalists, Allen, Larkin and O'Brien, who were executed in Manchester in 1867 for their part in a Fenian rescue attempt. The column is topped by the figure of a young woman with a harp and wolfhound-the traditional symbols of romantic Ireland....

Governor George Walker Memorial Garden located on Society Street next to the Apprentice Boys Memorial Hall is a monument to the Governor of Derry during the Siege of 1689. The 9 foot statue originally stood on an 80 foot high pillar at the Royal Bastion on Mall Wall from 1832 to 1973 when the pillar was destroyed by a bomb. The inscription perpetuates the memory of Reverend George Walker for his bravery throughout the Siege.

A reminder of another war, culminating in the Fight for Independence can be seen at eyre Square. In a circular island stands a statue by Donal Murphy of Liam Mellows, the patriot who led one of the few military engagements outside Dublin during the Easter Rising of 1916. The Liam Mellows Hurling Club, founded in 1934, is named in his honour....

This little known and somewhat difficult to find monument, 'Diarmuid and Grainne's Bed', is located on a farm 1 mile south of Carrowkeel (alias Kerrykeel) village and about 1/4 mile to the east of the road to Rathmelton. The portal stones are a well matched pair some 6 feet high, supporting the front edge of a craggy, cup-marked capstone which has been slightly displaced...

A Memorial column designed as a replica of Pompey's pillar, erected in 1841 to the memory of Sir Ralph Abercromby....
